Indian film director Ali Abbas Zafar, born on January 17, 1982, is also a screenwriter and is widely known for directing several successful films like ‘Sultan’ (2016), ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’ (2017), and ‘Bharat’ (2019). Zafar, who entered the film industry as an assistant director, graduated from Kirori Mal College, New Delhi. At the beginning of his journey in the film industry, Zafar assisted on multiple projects for Yash Raj Films and soon made his directorial debut as well as screenwriting debut with ‘Mere Brother Ki Dulhan’ in 2011. In 2014, Zafar’s next film ‘Gunday’ also received positive reviews from critics. He also made his production debut with ‘Khaali Peeli’ in 2020. Later, he ventured into the OTT medium and his first web series ‘Tandav’ received flak for ‘hurting religious sentiments.’ On January 18, 2021, an FIR was filed in the matter against the makers of ‘Tandav.’
